Cardiff 9-2 for Carling joy after shootout victory
CARDIFF are 9-2 to win the Carling Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout win over Crystal Palace followingcTuesday night’s semi-final second leg.
Palace led 1-0 after the first leg but Eagles centre-back Anthony
Gardner, who also scored in the opening leg, headed into his own net to draw Cardiff level.
The visitors went down to ten men when Patrick McCarthy was sent off and though Cardiff couldn’t win the tie in normal time – it was 1-1 on aggregate after 90 minutes and goalless in extra-time – the game went to spot-kicks, where the Bluebirds triumphed 3-1.
They will face the winner of Wednesday night’s last-four clash between Liverpool and Manchester City at Wembley on February 26.
