Ex-PSG coach Emery slashed for Arsenal job

THE next Arsenal manager market has been shaken up after a surge of support for the former PSG and Sevilla coach Unai Emery to succeed Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.

Emery's odds were slashed to 15-8, having been 12-1 on Sunday, as long-time favourite Mikel Arteta was eased to 5-6.

Arteta, Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City, has been trading at odds-on for the Arsenal job for almost a week and was as short as 1-8 on Monday morning.

Last week some bookmakers had suspended betting on Arteta becoming Arsenal boss but reports that Emery is in London for talks with the club have reinvigorated the market.

The Spaniard steered PSG to a domestic treble this season but a
last-16 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League prompted the French giants to replace him with Thomas Tuchel for next season.

It's 25-1 bar the front two in the betting - Celtic's Brendan Rodgers is rated the next most likely successor to Wenger with Chelsea's Antonio Conte a 50-1 shot to cross London.

Thierry Henry is 33-1 to take over at Arsenal but the Frenchman's focus is on his role as assistant to Belgium coach Roberto Martinez, who named his provisional 28-man squad for the World Cup on Monday.

Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan was the most surprising omission for the Belgians, who are 12-1 to lift the trophy in Russia and 5-6 favourites to top England's group.

The 2010 world champions Spain, who are 13-2 to regain their crown, announced their final 23-man squad for the World Cup. Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata misses out, along with his club teammates Cesc Fabregas and Marcos Alonso, and Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin.

Bet365 make Diego Costa 7-4 favourite to be Spain's top goalscorer at the finals. Isco is next in the betting at 11-2 with David Silva 6-1, Iago Aspas 7-1 and Marco Asensio 8-1.

Andre Villas-Boas has been cut to 10-1 to be Everton's next permanent manager although Marco Silva still dominates the betting at 1-3.

Coral make Anthony Martial 6-4 to join Juventus from Manchester United. Chelsea are 5-1 to sign the forward with PSG 8-1 and Tottenham 12-1.
