Gervinho goal saves Ivory Coast in opener

A LATE goal from Gervinho earned Africa Cup of Nations favourites Ivory Coast a 2-1 victory over Togo in their opening Group D fixture.

The Elephants were struggling to live up to their pre-tournament billing before Gervinho struck with Togo's Jonathan Ayiye cancelling out Yaya Toure's early goal.

Boylesports make Ivory Coast 5-4 to win the competition and Togo were pushed out to 125-1 by Coral.

Expert verdict
This pair have produced some classics down the years and six of the eight meetings since Newcastle returned to the top flight for 2010-11 have finished with over 2.5 goals. The teams have kept just four Premier League clean sheets between them and Newcastle's recent form suggests they can give Liverpool a decent contest.
