Jags 7-2 for France start after call-up for Barry

GARETH BARRY has withdrawn from England's squad for Euro 2012 with the lower abdomen tear picked up in Saturday night's 1-0 friendly win over Norway in Italy.

Everton defender Phil Jagielka, who had been well-backed to win a place in Roy Hodgson's original party for Poland and Ukraine next month, is the Manchester City midfield man's replacement.

Backers of Jagielka will collect if he is not injured before Uefa's Tuesday deadline for final 23-man squads (11am BST/noon CET) and bet365 make Jags 7-2 to start the Three Lions' opener against France (he is 1-6 not to make the starting line-up).

Danny Welbeck, Glen Johnson and Scott Parker are believed to have recovered sufficiently from their injuries to remain in Hodgson's plans.

Italy's build-up has been far from smooth and defender Domenico Criscito was withdrawn from the squad on Monday after being questioned by police investigating match-fixing claims.

The Italian federation's vice-president Demetrio Albertini said that Criscito, who had been a likely starter for Italy at left-back, would not be selected for the final squad as he bids to clear his name.

Lazio captain Stefano Mauri was arrested as part of the same investigation and police also questioned Juventus coach Antonio Conte.

Police said Conte's arrest was over allegations concerning a Serie B game between his previous club Siena and Novara in April 2011.
