Mackay and Moyes lead race to replace Strachan

MALKY MACKAY and David Moyes are jostling for favouritism to become Scotland’s next manager after Gordon Strachan was told his contract would not be renewed following their failed bid to qualify for the World Cup.

Some bookmakers prefer the chances of Moyes, although the former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland boss has drifted out to 4-1 with Hills and Mackay ranges from 9-5 to a best-priced 3-1 with Sky Bet in a market that is 12-1 bar the front two.

Betway’s 6-1 about Mackay was quickly snapped up and he does have the advantage of already being on the books of the Scottish Football Association in his role as performance director.

Ex-England manager Sam Allardyce is a 12-1 shot with Hills to move north of the border and Paul Lambert can be backed at the same price.

Alex McLeish is available at 14-1 with Coral and Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes is quoted at 14-1 with Betfair.

There is a disagreement on the chances of Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill, who is as low as 6-1 and best at 16-1.
