Magical Messi just 2-1 to break his own record

BARCELONA striker Lionel Messi reached another personal milestone on Sunday when his two goals in a 2-1 victory away to Betis – his 85th and 86th of the season – helped him break Gerd Muller’s 40-year-old record for the most goals in a calendar year.

But the Argentinian’s quest for perfection is unlikely to be diminished and Ladbrokes have responded to his latest feat by offering just 2-1 that he sets a new record in 2013.

Any club in the world would love to have Messi in their ranks and some of the elite English sides will be holding out hope or persuading the Argentine to swap life in La Liga for the Premier League.

Ladbrokes offer 4-6 that he plays for an English team before hanging up his boots.

Messi often seems on a different level to his opponents and a class gap could also be in evidence at Valley Parade tonight, where League Two Bradford entertain Arsenal in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals.

Bet365 are offering a market on which of the quarter-finalists score the most goals and make the Gunners the 11-8 favourites.

Arsenal have not lifted a major trophy since 2005 and bet365 go 6-4 that they collect some silverware this term and 1-2 they don’t.

It’s 11-10 with Coral that the semi-finals feature only Premier League teams.
