Merseyside derby in FA Cup third round

THE Merseyside derby was the highlight of the FA Cup third-round draw with Liverpool hosting Everton over the weekend of January 6.

Jurgen Klopp is still waiting for his first piece of silverware as the Reds boss and he has not always taken the FA Cup seriously, although a local clash with Everton should focus the minds of both teams either side of Stanley Park.

FA Cup favourites Manchester City host fellow Premier League outfit Burnley, while Manchester United are also at home with Derby the visitors to Old Trafford.

There are unlikely to be too many big-name casualties in the third round with Tottenham welcoming AFC Wimbledon to Wembley and Chelsea and Arsenal also drew lower-league opposition.

Chelsea head to Norwich and Arsenal are at Nottingham Forest. Some of the trickier ties for Premier League teams include West Ham at Shrewsbury, Swansea at Wolves and Stoke are away to Coventry.

Expert verdict
Liverpool thumped Swansea 5-0 at Anfield on Boxing Day but plenty has changed since and Jurgen Klopp’s Reds may have to work harder for their rewards in the reverse fixture in Wales. Carlos Carvalhal has since taken charge at the Liberty Stadium and they can stay competitive even if the silky-skilled Reds eventually take control.
