Playoffs again for PNE as MK Dons are promoted
MK Dons secured promotion to the Championship on the final day of the Football League season after Karl Robinson’s side romped to a 5-1 victory over relegated Yeovil, while Preston blew their chance of a top-two finish with a 1-0 loss at Colchester.
PNE’s defeat means they will enter the playoffs looking to break their duck having failed to gain promotion on the previous nine occasions the club have been in the end-of-season knockout competition.
Simon Grayson’s men, who will meet Chesterfield, are narrow 15-8 favourites to make it tenth time lucky, while Sheffield United and Swindon will do battle in the other semi-final.
Colchester’s win over Preston saw them avoid relegation, but less fortunate were Leyton Orient, Crawley and Notts County who all dropped down to League Two.
Those three sides will miss out on matches against Blackpool, Wigan and Millwall, who were all relegated from the Championship this season.
Ladbrokes rate Wigan 7-1 to win League One, Millwall are 10-1 and Blackpool can be backed at 25-1.
