Rooney odds-on for low goals tally at Everton

Wayne Rooney has returned to Everton after a 13-year association with Manchester United and the 31-year-old is 6-4 with bet365 to score a league goal against the Red Devils in the 2017-18 campaign.

The 31-year-old signed a two-year contract at Goodison Park after his free transfer and spoke enthusiastically about his desire to be successful in his second spell with the Toffees.

Rooney scored just five league goals for United last season but is 11-10 with bet365 to notch nine or more league goals this term and 8-11 to fall short.

He was far from prolific as a teenager with Everton, scoring 17 goals in 77 games, but goes back to his native Merseyside with a vast amount of experience and and a winning mentality which Ronald Koeman hopes will rub off on the rest of his squad.

Rooney is likely to be rewarded with more regular football which should boost his chances of a recall to the England squad.

He is 3-1 with Betfred to make next summer’s World Cup squad and 100-1 with bet365 to be the top Premier League scorer this season.

Rooney is set to make his debut in the home match against Stoke on the opening Saturday of the season and is 7-4 with Betfred to get on the scoresheet.

The arrival of Rooney is unlikely to be the end of Koeman’s transfer business.

Everton agreed the sale of Romelu Lukaku a few days ago lookout for a replacement centre-forward, with Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud touted as a possible target.

Giroud’s future was thrown into doubt last week when Arsenal completed a big-money move for Alexandre Lacazette and the Frenchman is just 5-4 with Ladbrokes to make the move to Goodison this summer. Cologne forward Anthony Modeste is a 9-2 chance and Bournemouth’s Joshua King is 5-1.

Manchester City are locked in a tug-of-war with Paris St-Germain over the capture of veteran Brazilian right-back Dani Alves, who departed Juventus earlier this summer.

Sky Bet have priced up Alves’s next club and make City the 4-7 favourites. PSG are quoted at 5-4 and a move to Major League Soccer is a 33-1 chance.
