Spurs held to bore draw by Partizan in Belgrade
TOTTENHAM failed to justify their status as odds-on favourites after being held to a goalless draw by Partizan in their Europa League opener on Thursday.
Spurs, who had been 8-11 for three points, came closest to breaking the deadlock when Harry Kane’s shot in the bar early on but they rarely looked like scoring after that.
Celtic started their campaign with a draw but their 2-2 in Salzburg was a great point. Twice the Bhoys led through Wakaso Mubarak and Scott Brown but on both occasions they were pegged back.
Everton made a much more impressive start to their campaign with a 4-1 home win over Wolfsburg. The Toffees went ahead with a Ricardo Rodriguez own goal and cruised clear through Seamus Coleman, a Leighton Baines penalty and Kevin Mirallas before Rodriguez scored at the right end to give the Germans a late consolation. Everton lead the section as Lille and Krasnodar drew in the other Group H game.
