Welbeck grabs hat-trick as Gunners thrash Gala
DANNY WELBECK was the star of the show as Arsenal cruised to a 4-1 victory over Galatasaray in Champions League Group D on Wednesday.
The former Manchester United misfit bagged a hat-trick as the Gunners bounced back from their matchday one defeat at Borussia Dortmund in style and Arsenal are 25-1 to win the Champions League.
Dortmund also had an easy night, beating Anderlecht 3-0 away with Adrian Ramos scoring twice.
But Liverpool’s passage to the last 16 suffered a major blow after they lost 1-0 at Basle in Group B. and the Merseysiders drifted out to 40-1 to win the competition.
The Swiss side had been 7-2 to beat the Reds but Marcos Streller scored the only goal of the game after 52 minutes and Liverpool could not find a reply, with striker Mario Balotelli again failing to find the net.
Group rivals Real Madrid were given an early scare by Ludogorets when they took an early lead in Russia and Cristano Ronaldo missed a penalty, but Ronaldo converted a second spot kick and Karim Benzema wrapped up a 2-1 victory.
In Group A, Atletico beat Juventus 1-0 and Malmo won 2-0 at home to Olympiakos, while in Group C Bayer Leverkusen defeated Benfica 3-1 and Zenit and Monaco drew 0-0.
