Woeful Manchester United look up against it
Liverpool have won their first eight games of the Premier League season to take full control of the title race and the Reds are likely to extend their impressive winning run when they take on toiling Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Jurgen Klopp’s men haven’t won at the home of their old rivals since the 2013-14 campaign but this current United team is in
a rut that they show no sign of escaping under much-maligned manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
A 4-0 win against Chelsea on the opening day of the campaign proved to be a false dawn for the Red Devils, who have since won just one of their seven league matches.
Solskjaer’s men, who lost 1-0 to Newcastle in their last Premier League outing, have generally performed better at Old Trafford but a meeting with the European champions will test a group of players who are clearly inferior to their opponents.
Liverpool boast quality all over the pitch, with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino capable of dismantling the United rearguard while Virgil van Dijk remains a rock-solid presence in defence.
Manchester City pipped the Reds to the title on the final day of 2018-19 but Klopp and his team look determined to make sure they go one better this season and it is hard to give United much chance on current form.
Bookmakers make the visitors odds-on favourites to bag three valuable points and those short prices are entirely justified given United’s struggles.
But Liverpool have not been taking teams apart away from Anfield, winning by one goal at Southampton, Chelsea and Sheffield United, and the same scenario is worth backing in Manchester.
