Three Lions can show their teeth at Wembley
England’s last fixture was marred by the actions of a section of the Bulgarian support but the Three Lions got the job done on the field and can confirm their place at the Euro 2020 finals with victory over Montenegro.
Beaten 2-1 by the Czech Republic in Prague last month, Gareth Southgate’s team responded with a professional 6-0 victory in difficult circumstances in Bulgaria and require only a point from their final two Group A matches to seal qualification.
Their Czech blip aside, England have dominated the section with five wins from their six outings.
The Three Lions have scored 26 goals in the process and it’s hard to see them failing to make the finals.
Montenegro went 1-0 up after 17 minutes when these two nations faced off in March but goals from Michael Keane, Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and a Ross Barkley double saw England run out easy 5-1 winners in Podgorica.
A more competitive contest is unlikely to unfold at Wembley, where England have scored nine goals in two matches in this qualifying campaign, and it may pay to bet on the free-wheeling Three Lions cutting loose.
Montenegro have failed to win any of their seven qualifiers, drawing three times, and for all that they’ll want to sign off on a positive note, England will surely have too much class.
The visitors failed to score in away defeats against the Czechs and Kosovo, and Southgate’s ruthless band of potent forwards will not show any mercy with starting berths for the finals still up for grabs.
England are short odds for victory but they have scored 14 goals in their three home matches and are worth backing to rack up the goals once again.
