Tottenham can grind out victory against Chelsea

Christmas cheer has been spreading around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ever since Jose Mourinho took charge and they head into this match following a classic Mourinho-style win at Molineux last weekend.

That victory made it four league wins in five games since his appointment and Tottenham’s confidence will be sky-high heading into this meeting with his former club Chelsea.

The Blues, on the other hand, will be lacking in self-belief after a pooor run. They slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth last weekend and Frank Lampard’s honeymoon period looks well and truly over.

Chelsea have now lost four of their last five league games, putting their top-four spot in serious jeopardy as the halfway point of the season looms.

A Spurs victory would see them leapfrog Chelsea and that looks a likely scenario given recent form coupled with the Blues’ poor record against top teams.

Expert verdict
Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the FA Cup third round and a similar scoreline could follow at the KCOM Stadium. Inconsistent Hull managed only three shots on target en route to losing their last two Championship outings and the youthful Blues look a class above their hosts.
