Premier entertainment certain with Mick on TV
MICK McCARTHY must be itching to get back in the Premier League.
The outspoken boss has barely been linked with a top-flight job let alone interviewed for one since his steady hand was removed from Wolves, and the Prem is a less hilarious place for it.
If Neil Warnock, Alan Irvine and Mark Hughes can get Premier League gigs then why can’t everyone’s favourite serial complainer?
Maybe he was next on the list after Warnock to replace Tony Pulis.
Either way, absence must be making the heart grow fonder, both for McCarthy and his loyal followers, but those missing him can get their fix on Sky Sports when his Ipswich side take on Wigan on Monday.
Sticking with the Tractor Boys is probably McCarthy’s best hope of another shot at the big time - even Alan Curbishley now figures shorter in the betting when a new job opens up - but Ipswich will need to step up their away form before that happens.
The East Anglians haven’t won in six on the road, and don’t seem to enjoy playing Wigan.
The Latics beat them 2-0 and 3-1 last season and the smart money - and my money - has to be on Uwe Rosler enhancing his reputation with a win, while confining McCarthy to more Championship purgatory.
At least we’ll get a post-match interview out of him.
