Captain Morgan earns Leicester valuable point

LEICESTER were unable to celebrate winning the Premier League yesterday but the title party postponement may last only one day with the Foxes odds-on to be crowned champions on Monday.

Claudio Ranieri’s men drew 1-1 at Manchester United which means Tottenham must beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and bet365 go 4-7 that Spurs fail to get the job done.

There was something of an anti-climax to proceedings at Old Trafford but it was still a good draw for Leicester, who are 1-20 to win the title with Tottenham out to 18-1.

Anthony Martial put United in front early on and the leaders looked on the ropes before captain Wes Morgan headed past David de Gea to level matters.

Danny Drinkwater was sent off for Leicester late on, although referee Michael Oliver controversially decided against awarding a penalty to United.

Leicester, 5,000-1 outsiders at the start of the campaign, are as short as 4-9 to be champions on Monday, while bet365 make them a 7-2 chance to wait until after the Everton home game on Saturday to claim the title, while the fight is 7-1 to go to the final round of fixtures on May 15.

Coral go 2-1 that Leicester are crowned champions at some stage this weekend – a win against the Toffees will make sure of first spot – before Tottenham host Southampton on Sunday.

The Foxes, who lead by eight points, are 6-4 with bet365 to romp to the title by at least seven points and they need only two draws to cause the biggest upset in sports betting history even if Spurs win their last three games.

However, barring a goal-difference miracle, Tottenham are now at least certain of a top-four finish following United’s draw with the leaders but Louis van Gaal’s men are unlikely to be playing Champions League football next season.

United, 4-1 for a top-four finish, are four points behind Manchester City with a game in hand on their local rivals after Manuel Pellegrini’s men were stuffed 4-2 at Southampton.

Pellegrini’s decision to rest key players before Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final tie at Real Madrid came back to bite with Sadio Mane helping himself to a hat-trick.

Shane Long was also on target against City, who were thankful to two-goal Kelechi Iheanacho for keeping the score respectable.

City are 1-4 to finish in the top four and their next Premier League game is at home to third-placed Arsenal on Sunday.

Liverpool lost 3-1 at Swansea. First-half goals from Andre Ayew and Jack Cork put Swansea in control before substitute Christian Benteke pulled one back only for Ayew to make sure of the points.

The Ladbrokes Scottish Championship concluded with Falkirk holding on to second spot thanks to a 1-0 victory over Morton to leave Hibs in third and facing Raith in the first round of playoff ties.
