Cech 1-2 to leave Bridge after Mourinho snub
CHELSEA made a winning start to their Premier League campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.
Blues manager Jose Mourinho selected Thibaut Courtois to start in goal ahead of Petr Cech, and Ladbrokes reacted by quoting Cech at 1-2 to leave Stamford Bridge during this transfer window – either on loan or on a permanent transfer.
But young Belgian stopper Courtois was picking the ball out of the net after just 14 minutes when Scott Arfield gave Burnley a shock lead.
However Diego Costa, making his Chelsea debut, levelled just three minutes later and fellow new signing Cesc Fabregas produced a sublime pass for Andre Schurrle to give Chelsea the lead shortly after.
Defender Branislav Ivanovic scored a third Chelsea goal from a corner, but there were no further goals in the second half despite Didier Drogba coming off the bench to make his Blues return.
Chelsea were trimmed from 7-4 to 6-4 for the title.
