Everton edge opening Europa League tie
Everton were made to work hard before finally landing a 1-0 victory at long odds-on against Ruzomberok in their Europa League third qualifying round first-leg tie at Goodison Park.
Leighton Baines scored the only goal, via a deflection, as the Toffees, who started with the returning Wayne Rooney in the central striking position of a 4-3-3 formation, edged out the Slovakian minnows.
Aberdeen grabbed a 2-1 home win against ten-man Apollon Limassol. Ryan Christie and Graeme Shinnie were on target for the Scottish side.
