Magpies seal deadline deal for Doumbia
NEWCASTLE were the biggest players during the winter transfer window and strengthened further on deadline day by sealing a loan deal for Roma striker Seydou Doumbia.
Earlier in the window the Magpies twice shelled out reported £12m fees for Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend.
And the move from Doumbia - scorer of five goals during a loan spell at CSKA Moscow earlier this season - should provide much-needed assistance to Newcastle strikers Papiss Cisse, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez, who have all struggled for consistency.
Stoke were poised to break their transfer record on Monday night, having been widely reported to have agreed an £18.2m deal for the capture of Porto midfielder Giannelli Imbula.
However, the deal for the French Under-21 international was not done in time for him to feature in tonight's league match at Manchester United.
West Brom have added to their creative options by agreeing a loan deal for Tottenham attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard. The 22-year-old has won nine caps for England Under-21s but has not played since suffering an ankle injury in August.
Sheffield Wednesday boosted their hopes of promotion to the Premier League by snapping up Ireland international winger Aiden McGeady on loan from Everton.
Teddy Sheringham has been sacked as Stevenage manager just nine months after taking the job. Darren Sarll has taken over as caretaker-manager.
