Portugal eased for group after draw in opener
PORTUGAL were pushed out to 11-10 from evens to win Group F tonight as they were held to a 1-1 draw in their opening Euro 2016 match against Iceland in St Etienne.
Nani gave Portugal the lead in the 31st minute, but Iceland, playing their first match in the finals of a major tournament, equalised through Birkir Bjarnason five minutes after the interval.
Hungary, who were 12-1 to win the section, are at the head of affairs following their 2-0 victory over Austria and are 13-8 to finish top of the group.
Iceland, who play Hungary in their next match in Marseille on Saturday, are 4-7 with Coral to book their place in the knockout stages.
Portugal are 16-1 to lift the trophy on July 10.
The result in St Etienne meant that ten of the 12 matches played in the first round of fixtures featured fewer than three goals and no player has scored more than one goal in the tournament.
France's Olivier Giroud, who scored in the hosts' opener against Romania and is due to face Albania in Group A tomorrow, is 6-1 favourite for the Golden Boot with Sky Bet.
