Rampant Tottenham cane hapless Hammers

SHOCK defeats for Manchester City and Arsenal on Saturday gave a hint of a wide-open Premier League and Tottenham highlighted their potential to make a serious mark on the competition with a 4-1 thrashing of West Ham at White Hart Lane.

Spurs, who are now 12 matches unbeaten in the Premier League, moved to within two points of fourth-placed Arsenal and just four behind surprise pacesetters Leicester with bookmakers suitably impressed by Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

Tottenham are 13-8 to finish in the top four and 25-1 from 33-1 to win the Premier League.

Only City (plus 14) have a better goal difference than Tottenham’s plus 13, although Sunday’s home clash with champions Chelsea will tell us more about their title prospects.

Spurs will be in the unusual position of being considered favourites to beat the Blues - in the early betting Betfred rate them 8-5 and Chelsea are quoted at 2-1 by bet365 - but Tottenham will be missing the suspended Dele Alli after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Harry Kane scored twice against the Hammers as he took his league tally to eight for the season and the England man is generally available at 7-1 to claim the Golden Boot, while bet365 make him 6-5 to reach at least 20 goals. The 22-year-old is 8-13 to fall short.

Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker were also on target for rampant Tottenham with West Ham playmaker Manuel Lanzini grabbing a late consolation.

Brighton remain unbeaten in the Sky Bet Championship following a 1-1 draw at Burnley, who saw Andre Gray equalise from the penalty spot after Bobby Zamora opened the scoring.

Albion are 6-1 to finish as champions and Burnley can be backed at 10-1.
