5-2 Belgium beat Brazil to reach semi-finals

Belgium are 5-2 to win the World Cup after eliminating ante-post favourites Brazil and setting up a semi-final showdown with neighbours France.

Roberto Martinez's men raced into a 2-0 first-half advantage thanks to a Fernandinho own goal and a brilliant strike from Kevin De Bruyne that is 8-1 with Betway to be named as the goal of the tournament.

They were desperately hanging on towards the end as Renato Augusto's header made for a grandstand finish but Brazil were unable to find another way past inspired goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Belgium meet France in St Petersburg on Tuesday and bookmakers are expecting a close battle. Coral go 8-11 France reach the final with Belgium at evens, while Brazil's exit saw England's outright price collapse further with the Three Lions just 4-1 to win the World Cup.

The demise of Brazil saw a further rejig in the Golden Ball betting with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Neymar slipping out of contention. Kylian Mbappe remains favourite at 7-2 with bet365 but Eden Hazard is into 4-1 and De Bruyne can be backed at 7-1 to be named as the player of the tournament.

In a tournament of surprises four of the top five in the ante-post betting are out with Brazil (9-2) joining Germany (5-1), Spain (6-1) and Argentina (10-1) on the World Cup scrapheap.

Those who backed a European winner at 4-11 can go and collect in a tournament where the six remaining sides are all from the Uefa region.

France are the 2-1 favourites from Belgium and England with Croatia 6-1, hosts Russia 20-1 and Sweden are 22-1.

Expert verdict
This World Cup semi-final rematch is about much more than revenge for England with both teams knowing a Wembley win will take them through to next summer's Nations League knockout phase. England look to have stepped up a gear since last summer's World Cup loss to Croatia, beating Spain in Seville, and can continue their upward trajectory.
