Leicester v Tottenham

This is a spot where Tottenham dominated last season winning all eight games home and away against the bottom four sides. Leicester obviously lost Maresca and their best player Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea. Lecce v Atalanta

Lecce lost seven of eight, home and away against the top four in Italy last season, which included Atalanta doing the double over them. Gasperini has recruited well adding Mateo Retegui from Genoa and De Ketelare from Milan. That may open the door for a Lookman and Koopmeiners exit but they still have more than enough quality to beat a Lecce side have lost a key piece at centre-back in Marin Pongracic to Fiorentina.

Villarreal v Atletico Madrid

Atletico have been one of the more active clubs in Europe over the summer. They’ve spent over €100m on Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth and bolstered their defence with Euro 2024 winner Robin Le Normand. Sorloth gets to face his former team on match day one and the Yellow Submarine’s also lost centre-back Cuenca to Fulham and goalkeepr Jorgensen to Chelsea. Villarreal conceded the third most goals in La Liga last season and will be without new signings Willy Kambwala and Ayoze Perez for the opener.
