Arsenal odds-on to overturn Bate deficit

Arsenal are 4-11 to progress from the Europa League last 32 despite losing the first leg of their tie with Bate Borisov 1-0 in Belarus.

The Gunners were a best-priced 4-9 to win the away fixture, with Bate offered at 7-1, but the visitors went behind when Stanislav Dragun nodded in a free-kick moments before the break.

Unai Emery's men failed to find a way back into the game and their misery was compounded when Alexandre Lacazette was shown a straight red for elbowing Aleksandar Filipovic five minutes from time.

Arsenal are 2-11 with Sky Bet to win the reverse match at the Emirates and have seen their outright price drift to 13-2.

BoyleSports rate Chelsea 1-250 to make the last 16 of the competition after goals from Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud saw them take a 2-1 lead over Malmo in their last-32 contest.

Celtic suffered a huge setback in their European endeavours, losing 2-0 at home to Valencia, who are 16-1 shots for the title.

Napoli are 4-1 with some firms to become the first Italian winners of the Europa League and its predecessor the Uefa Cup since 1999 after they cruised to a 3-1 win away to Zurich.

  • Liverpool have lost six of their last eight Champions League away games
Expert verdict
Liverpool begin their Champions League title defence with a return to the scene of one of the four away defeats they suffered on their way to winning last season’s competition. The Reds were beaten 1-0 at the Stadio San Paolo in the group stage last October and, as the Partenopei have lost three times in their last 19 home fixtures in the competition, their run of six defeats in eight UCL away games is a concern. However, they rarely fail to deliver in the final third, netting in all but four of their last 42 competitive matches.
