City 2-7 for EFL Cup treble after semi first legs

Manchester City are 2-7 to complete an EFL Cup treble after they won the first leg of their semi-final with Manchester United 3-1 at Old Trafford on Tuesday and Leicester and Aston Villa drew 1-1 at the King Poer Stadium on Wednesday.

The Foxes are now 9-2 shots to lift the League Cup at Wembley on March 1 while the Villans can be  backed at 20-1 and the Red Devils are 50-1 pokes.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now finds himself with the unwanted status of being 2-1 favourite in the next Premier League manager to go betting.

City, who are seeking to lift the trophy for a fifth time in seven years, cut the Red Devils' defence to ribbons embarrassingly often at Old Trafford on Tuesday and the defeat followed an FA Cup third round 0-0 draw at Wolves when Solskjaer’s side failed to register a shot on target and a 2-0 top-flight loss at Arsenal.

United are 25-1 with Paddy Power and Betfair to overturn the semi-final deficit and the only crumb of comfort for them is that the away-goal rule is not in operation for the EFL Cup, so a 2-0 victory would be enough to take the tie to penalties.

The Red Devils are a general 1-3 to get the better of Norwich in their next Premier League outing on Saturday.

Brendan Rodgers' Leicester, flying high in second the Premier League, are 1-3 to come out on t0p at Villa Park at the end of the month, after they dominated first-leg proceedings but were still gratreful for substitute Kelechi Iheanacho's 74th minute leveller. Frederic Guilbert had netted in the 28th minute with Villa's only shot on target. Dean Smith's side are 9-4 to progress.
