England 5-1 for Euros glory after Sofia success

England are on the brink of qualifying for Euro 2020 after Monday's 6-0 success over Bulgaria in Sofia, which was marred by racist abuse from the stands.

Defeat leaves Bulgaria propping up Group A but the result will be the least of their worries after the actions of some home supporters led to play being suspended on two occasions.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov responded on Tuesday by calling for the resignation of Borislav Mihaylov – the head of the country's football association.

On the pitch England were hugely impressive with Raheem Sterling and Ross Barkley contributing two goals each and Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane scoring the first and last goals.

Gareth Southgate's side are three points clear of Czech Republic and four clear of Kosovo, who won 2-0 at home to Montenegro.

England need just one more point to qualify and are expected to be major contenders.

They are 5-1 second favourites to lift the trophy but France are the 4-1 market leaders despite drawing 1-1 with Group H leaders Turkey in Paris.

France are in second place, four points clear of third-placed Iceland with two games left to play.
