Fulham's Bettinelli called up to the England squad
Uncapped Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has been called up to the England squad to play Spain and Switzerland in the Nations League this week in a surprise move by Gareth Southgate.
Bettinelli wasn't even in Fulham's squad for the first two games of the season after the Cottagers signed two keepers in the summer, but he made his Premier League debut less than two weeks ago and saved a penalty against Brighton on Saturday
Despite his call-up Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and Alex McCarthy remain in the squad.
Adam Lallana has been forced out of the group with a groin strain and joins Raheem Sterling on the sidelines.
Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has withdrawn from the Spain squad and is replaced by former Liverpool forward Iago Aspas in Luis Enrique's first game in charge.
England are 15-8 to beat Italy at Wembley on Saturday before facing Switzerland in Leicester on Tuesday night.
