Hosts Portugal favourites to win Nations League

Hosts Portugal are 15-8 favourites to be the first country to get their name on the Nations League trophy - the action kicks off in the new end-of season international tournament on Wednesday.

Gareth Southgate's England are the 9-4 second favourites with Holland are 3-1 shots and Switzerland 7-1 outsiders.

Portugal play Switzerland in the first semi-final at the Estadio Dragao in Porto, while England will meet Holland in the second semi in Guimaraes on Thursday.

Harry Kane, one of seven England players involved in the Champions League final on Saturday, is 4-1 to open the scoring.

The winners will face off in Sunday’s final in Porto following the third-fourth place playoff earlier in the day.

Portugal’s last three meetings with the Swiss have gone the way of the home side with Switzerland winning twice and Portugal once.

The Portuguese are just 4-6 to continue that trend with a win inside 90 minutes and they are 1-3 to qualify for the final.

England are 7-5 to see off the Dutch in normal time and 3-4 to qualify. Holland are 11-5 to get the better of Southgate’s side and 23-20 to make the final.

The Three Lions won 4-1 at Euro 1996 when the teams last met in a competitive match.

Uefa have confirmed VAR is to be used in the finals. It will be the first time it has been used in a national team competition run by European football’s governing body.

The technology was used at the 2018 World Cup and in this season’s Champions League knockout stages, while it will make its debut in the Premier League next season.
