Liverpool go top as City slip to draw at Molineux

LAST season it took 20 matches and more than three months before Manchester City dropped points in their march to the Premier League title.

But City’s hopes of emulating that dominant start were ended when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Wolves on Saturday.

The champions were 2-7 shots to take all three points from Molineux but Willy Boly gave 11-1 Wolves the lead just before the hour mar. Aymeric Laporte hit City’s equaliser.

Liverpool took advantage to move to the top of the table with a 1-0 home win over Brighton. The Reds were just 1-6 for a third straight victory but were made to work by a spirited Seagulls side. Mo Salah scored the decisive goal.

Arsenal gained their first points of the season although they had to come from behind to beat West Ham 3-1 at home, while there were draws at Bournemouth, who came back from two down to draw with ten-man Everton, and Huddersfield, who played out a goalless stalemate with Cardiff.

Leicester made it back-to-back wins with a 2-1 victory at Southampton thanks to a 90th-minute goal from Harry Maguire.

Leeds kept up their storming start in the Sky Bet Championship with a 3-0 victory at Norwich to put them back above Middlesbrough at the top of the table.

Both teams are unbeaten with a 13-point haul after 13 games, with free-scoring Leeds ahead on goal difference.
