Hull v Bristol City
Hull have lost a lot of talent and goal production over the summer and are yet to replace the likes of Greaves, Philogene, Tufan, and Carvalho amongst others. Bristol City got their business done early and added some much needed attacking firepower. Hull have had an atrocious pre-season and new manager Tim Walter has already expressed he needs more players.
Cardiff v Sunderland
According to expected points, Cardiff were the second biggest overperformers in the league last season, where they should have finished 21st. They scored 21 of their 53 goals from set pieces, and joint top scorer and third top scorer were both centre-backs. Sunderland were the biggest underperformers and have a plethora of talent in the squad. Adding Alan Browne to a squad full of exciting young players is a shrewd move and they can get their campaign off to a winning start in south Wales.
Middlesbrough v Swansea
Swansea really struggled against good sides in the Championship last season with losses home and away at each of the top four and Boro did the double over them. The Swans lost away at each of the top five and conceded three or more in every game. Neither side has done much of note in the summer. Swansea will pin their attacking hopes on new boys Zan Vipotnik, who scored 10 in 37 in the second tier in France and exciting South Korean winger Ji-sung Eom. The squad still looks a bit light, highlighted by their minutes given to a trialist in their final friendly last weekend.
