Silva goal gives Man City victory at Hoffenheim
Manchester City gained their first win of the Champions League campaign at Hoffenheim – but not before they put their backers through the wringer.
The tournament favourites looked to have been handed an easy draw but were beaten by Lyon at home on matchday one, and then found themselves 1-0 down inside a minute in Germany.
City had gone off 2-5 favourites to beat Hoffenheim and it looked as if they would come roaring back when Sergio Aguero fired them level on eight minutes.
But the Premier League champions became more and more frustrated as their opponents dug in, and City were denied what looked a strong penalty claim when Leroy Sane was brought down in the second half.
Two more dropped points would have set the alarm bells ringing at the Etihad, but David Silva was on hand to grab a winner with three minutes to go.
Next up for City is a trip to Shakhtar in three weeks.
