Spurs into Champions League last eight

Real Madrid's reign as European champions is over after the Spanish holders were humiliated in a 4-1 home defeat by Ajax to lose 5-3 on aggregate.

Ajax, who trailed 2-1 from the first leg in Amsterdam, travelled to the Bernabeu as 6-1 outsiders to reach the Champions League quarter-finals but put in a sensational performance to stun the champions.

Hakim Ziyech put Ajax ahead and they were two up at the break with David Neres on target. Dusan Tadic put Ajax further before Marco Asensio reduced the deficit, but Lasse Schone's free kick saw the Dutch side cut to 25-1 to win the Champions League.

Interim Madrid manager Santiago Solari seems unlikely to get the job on a permanent basis and Jose Mourinho is the 11-10 favourite with Betfair and Paddy Power to be next in at the Bernabeu.

Mauricio Pochettino is a 7-2 shot and his reputation went up another notch or two after leading Spurs to the Champions League quarter-finals following a 1-0 win at Borussia Dortmund which saw Tottenham progress 4-0 on aggregate.

Dortmund threw everything at Spurs in the first half but Hugo Lloris kept the Germans at bay and Harry Kane grabbed the crucial away goal early in the second period.

Tottenham are 14-1 to win the Champions League.
