Steve Bruce cut for Newcastle job

Boylesports have suspended betting on Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce being named the new Newcastle manager after the former Sunderland coach plummeted from 50-1 to 1-5 to fill the vacancy.

Bruce became the first name linked with the job to go odds-on after it was reported he is being considered by the Magpies.

He becomes the eighth new favourite for the job, usurping Mikel Arteta, who is available at 7-1, while Jose Mourinho (7-1), John Terry (10-1) and Sheffield United's Chris Wilder (14-1) are among the others in the mix.

Bruce quashed links when speaking on Radio Sheffield last week. He said: "I've been on holiday. I never take any notice of all that sort of speculation or tittle-tattle.

"I think there have been 150 managers associated with Newcastle. I would suppose I'm going to be one of them."

The Magpies are 3-1 to be relegated from the Premier League next season.

Hammarby v Elfsborg

Key stats
  • Elfsborg are winless in six matches
Expert verdict
Hammarby boss Stefan Billborn has urged his team to continue to "attack, attack, attack" as they target a top-three berth in the Allsvenskan and they can flex their goalscoring muscle against midtable Elfsborg. Billborn's men have won only seven of their 15 league assignments this term but their attacking players are in excellent nick, thumping Falkenberg 6-2 before a 3-2 success against Sundsvall.
