The Premier League weekend in numbers

After an arduous international football hiatus, the Premier League returned at the weekend delivering six studs to the senses and three days of compelling top-flight action.

In total, a net-busting 32 goals were registered across the ten matches contested between Saturday and Monday, with Norwich City’s incredible 3-2 win over defending champions Manchester City the
weekend’s most outstanding result.

Let’s take a look back at the latest round of fixtures in our special feature: The Premier League Weekend in Numbers.

1 - The number of shots on target Burnley had against Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday. That solitary accurate effort was unleashed in injury-time by Jeff Hendrick, and it produced the latest of equalisers for the Clarets.

2 - The number of clean sheets Manchester United have at Old Trafford this season after their hard-fought 1-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday. United kept their visitors out just twice in 19
attempts over the course of the entire 2018-19 season.

3 – The number of shots on target Norwich City mustered in their epic triumph over Man City on Saturday evening. The Canaries' 100 per cent success rate from their efforts allowed them to win 3-2.

6 – The number of saves made Sheffield United keeper Dean Henderson against Southampton. Henderson made more stops than any other goalkeeper at the weekend, though he still finished on
the losing side.

7 – The number of yellow cards shown to the players in Tottenham’s resounding 4-0 win against Crystal Palace. That was the most yellow cards handed out in any fixture at the weekend.

16- The number of corners won by Manchester City at Carrow Road. That was the highest amount won by any team at the weekend, even if they were ultimately in vain.

47 – The incredible number of aerial duels contested by the players involved in Bournemouth’s win over Everton on Sunday. No other Premier League fixture came close to matching that figure at the
weekend.

75 - The percentage of possession dominated by Liverpool in their 3-1 comeback win against Newcastle on Saturday. Only Spurs (80 per cent v Newcastle) have enjoyed more of the ball in a game this season.

83 – The percentage of Chelsea’s six attempts against Wolves that hit their mark. The Blues won 5-2 at Molineux, plundering their impressive haul from only six shots on goal.

96 - The number of shots on goal Arsenal have conceded this season. The Gunners have conceded more attempts than any other side in the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 or the Bundesliga.

Expert verdict
Some Arsenal supporters are not happy with Unai Emery’s tactics but the Gunners are third in the Premier League after eight matches and can maintain their upward trajectory by beating Sheffield United. The visitors have lost only one match in all competitions this season and should continue to improve with Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney both fit again after injury. They haven’t always been brilliant but Arsenal tend to get the job done. Sheffield United held firm for 70 minutes against Liverpool and have proved hard to break down, but they have lost four of their last five home matches in all competitions.
