The Premier League weekend in numbers

The festive season is in full swing and the Premier League served up a four-course feast of football over the weekend with all the trimmings.

In the pick of the action on Saturday, Everton stuffed Chelsea at Goodison Park with Big Dunc at the helm, Spurs rattled five without reply past Burnley, and United upset the odds in the Manchester Derby.

On Sunday, Newcastle fought back to beat Southampton, Sheffield United won the battle of the Premier League new boys at Norwich, and Leicester City ran out easy winners at Aston Villa.

Let’s take a look back at the latest round of fixtures in our special feature: The Premier League Weekend in Numbers.

0 – The number of Premier League points collected by Bournemouth in their last five matches. The Cherries string of five defeats is their longest losing streak since they were promoted to the top-flight in 2015.

1 – The number of times Sheffield United have lost away from Bramall Lane in 23 competitive fixtures on the road. The Blades have yet to be beaten on their travels in the Premier League this season, and their last loss away from home came in a 0-1 defeat to Swansea in January.

2 – The number of assists notched by Andy Carroll in his last two Premier League appearances for Newcastle. The burly centre-forward didn’t create a single goal in the entire 2018/19 and 2017/18 seasons, and he finished the 2016/17 campaign with just one assist to his name.

3 – The number of times Manchester United have beaten City at the Etihad since 2016. After their latest win there on Saturday evening, United’s record stands at three wins, one draw and one defeat from their last five visits to the blue half of Manchester.

6 – The number of yellow cards shown to Aston Villa’s players in their 1-4 home reverse to Leicester City on Sunday. Amazingly, Douglas Luiz – who committed more fouls (five) than any other player involved – avoided a caution.

9 – The number of second half minutes it took Arsenal to score three times to turn their contest with West Ham at the London Stadium completely on its head. The Gunners had been trailing 1-0 before their flurry of goals between the 60th and 69th minutes.

17 - The number of goals Liverpool have now put past Bournemouth in their last five Premier League meetings with the Cherries after their 3-0 win at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday. Bournemouth failed to find the net in each of those five encounters.

60 - The incredible number of tackles attempted by Everton’s players in their rousing 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Toffees’ had attempted an average of just 29.8 per 90 minutes of Premier League action before Saturday’s game. The Big Dunc effect.

62.5 – The percentage of Wolves last eight Premier League games where Wanderers finished level with their opponents. After their 2-2 tie with Brighton at the weekend, Wolves have now shared the spoils in nine of their 16 league fixtures in total since the summer.

79 – The notably high number of long balls played by Tottenham in their 5-0 hammering of Burnley on Saturday. The Clarets, who rank second this season for average long balls played per game (72) played 67 direct passes themselves in North London.
