Man City increase pressure on Marco Silva

Manchester City are as short as 4-6 to retain their Premier League crown after going top with a 2-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola's men went into the game as 10-11 favourites to win the title and justified 3-10 favouritism against an Everton team who have now lost four of their last five home league matches.

Liverpool, who have a game in hand over the Citizens, are 5-4 to finish top of the pile with Tottenham a best-priced 25-1.

Defeat for the Toffees has cranked up the pressure on their manager Marco Silva, who is the is 5-2 favourite in the next manager to leave market.

The Merseyside club went behind in added time at the end of the first half when Aymeric Laporte nodded in David Silva's free kick. Everton mustered only one shot on target in the game and Gabriel Jesus doubled City's advantage just before the final whistle.

Everton's next match is a visit to Silva's former club Watford.

Their next four games at Goodison Park are against Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, and Sky Bet rate them 10-11 to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Key stats
  • Man City have lost only once at home in the Premier League this season.
Expert verdict
Following their Champions League humdinger, Manchester City and Tottenham reconvene in the Premier League and the game is unlikely to be anywhere near as pulsating. With City not needing to press for early goals, they can play their usual free-flowing game and make it seven wins in nine matches against top-six opposition this season. Only one of those eight meetings so far have featured over 4.5 goals and punters should expect a narrow win for Pep Guardiola's side.
